
Junk food is a high-fat foods, sweet and a little nutrition. These foods are not recommended for people with certain health conditions, especially for pregnant women. Women who like to eat junk food while pregnant could make his future also become addicted to junk food.
A new report has been published in the FASEB Journal suggests that pregnant mothers who eat junk food with high sugar and fat content tend to have a baby or child who would become addicted to junk food as well.
According to the report, foods high in fat and sugar can cause changes in fetal brain pathways, which consequently may alter food preferences.
These findings not only give you an idea why obesity is increasing worldwide. But it also explains why there are people who simply refuse to eat sweet and fatty foods, while others become addicted to these foods.
"These results will help us to pay more attention to eating a diet during pregnancy and lactation, in order to provide the best start for the baby's life," explains Beverly Muhlhausler, Ph.D., author of the study of FOODplus Research Centre at the School of Agriculture Food and Wine at the University of Adelaide, Adelaide, Australia, as reported by ScienceDaily, Saturday (03/26/2011).
Scientists find mothers who eat junk food have high levels of receptors for opioids are higher after they were weaned.
This suggests that infants whose mothers ate high amounts of excess fat and junk food when pregnant or nursing, tend to have a greater preference for a similar meal at a later date.
"It is ironic when there are mothers who nag their children to eat fruits and vegetables, but it could have been eating junk food habits of their children came from his habit of eating junk food when pregnant and breastfeeding," said Gerald Weissmann, MD, editor in chief of the FASEB Journal.
The findings are expected to convince pregnant women to eat more vegetables and fruits and eat less foods that are high in fat and sugar.
